TPN: Test Automation with Legacy Systems

23 June 2010: 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The Dining Room
The Auckland Club
34 Shortland Street, Auckland

NZCS Test Professionals Network (Auckland) presents:

Test Automation for Legacy Systems with Rick Mugridge.

Most software is developed without test automation in mind.  The software usually changes over time and the systems are likely to have become rather tangled. This makes it hard to apply test automation at multiple levels. And it can be difficult to have clean test independence, especially when test systems are shared.

Test automation often has to be carried out through user interfaces, which tends to make automation slow and fragile. We look at the issues in applying test automation to legacy systems, including political ones, and look at some useful approaches.

We would be grateful if you could please forward this invite to others who may be interested in the event.

About The Speaker

Rick Mugridge is an expert in agile software development, working in NZ, Europe and USA as coach, architect, developer and consultant to people working in test automation.

He has developed FitLibrary, an open-source testing framework that works with FitNesse. He continues to develop tools for test automation, including for web systems, and with a current focus on legacy systems. He is the main author of "Fit for Developing Software", Prentice-Hall, 2005, which covers test automation techniques.

Rick has a PhD in Computer Science and has taught software engineering at the University of Auckland.

We hope that you can join us for this event.
