This year is the 50th anniversary of the NZ Computer Society's formation, so to kick off the year in Wellington we've developed a special quiz night.

The questions have been drawn up and the history books have been out (ok we used Wikipedia a lot!)  The timescale of the questions ranges from 50 years ago to last week, so we recommend you form teams of mixed ages, to cover the spectrum. 

Anyone not already in a team will be assigned a place on arrival.

Quiz starts 6pm.

Snacks and Nibbles will be provided, and there will be a cash bar.

About The Quizmaster

Noel Cheer was employed by IBM New Zealand -- from anonymity in 1961 until obscurity in 1997 -- in a range of activities which spanned repairing electric typewriters to reassuring self-intimidated middle managers that the new-fangled Personal Computers of the 1980s were relevant to business and posed no threat to either themselves or to IBM's core business.

(Well, one out of three isn't too bad!). 

As Noel's interest in the equipment that he helped sell morphed from fixing it to using it, his job description took on the rosy title of Market Support Manager in which role he was IBM's face in the Unix group, UniForum. 

Noel's career in IBM was, for the most part, happy with his more than 12 years of retirement blessed by a pension enabling him to use computers to eke out his limited writing and television presenting skills.
