TPN presents: James Bach - The Myths of Rigor

13 August 2009: 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Westpac
Level 1, Optimation House
1 Grey Street
Wellington

We are delighted to announce that once again James Bach, international software testing guru from the USA, will be in Wellington soon - he has kindly agreed to speak at our next TPN meeting.

James Bach presents The Myths of Rigor: "I keep hearing that rigor is important in software engineering. Well, it's not that simple. Rigor is not an ingredient, like sand, that you spread on icy roads to keep from slipping off. Rigor is no simple fix. Rigor is complex. Rigor can be useful or it can be dangerous, or both at once. In this talk I outline the typical arguments in favor of rigor and try to show how to counter them with a more sophisticated view of intellectual work processes."

The presentation will be followed by a networking session with drinks and nibbles provided by Software Education.

About The Speaker

For those of you who don't know James, he specialises in thinking about, teaching, and performing testing as a sophisticated thinking art. He is part of a community called the Context-Driven School. Some of the best-known names in the testing field are part of this movement.

James Bach is in New Zealand to speak at Software Education's annual STANZ Conference, running in Wellington 24-25 August.
