As well as our professional membership grades, the NZCS has an Affiliate level membership.
Combining most of the benefits of professional membership with a low entry requirements means our Affiliate grade opens NZCS membership to everyone who has an interest in ICT, whether currently working in ICT professionally or not.

Affiliates are generally those that fall into one of the following three categories:
- Those that don't strictly work in ICT, but wish to access the benefits of NZCS membership;
- Those that don't meet the eligibility criteria of professional membership; or
- Those that don't wish to adhere to the ongoing Professional Development requirements of professional membership.

Affiliates receive all benefits of professional membership, with the following exceptions:
- Affiliates may not hold office within the Society (eg Branch Committees or National Council);
- Affiliates do not receive the same level of professional recognition - eg they may not use post nominals (eg MNZCS);
Note that the Affiliate membership grade lacks the professional recognition of our professional membership grades.

The only requirement of Affiliate Membership is formal acceptance of the NZCS Code of Ethics. There are no ongoing Professional Development requirements.

Joining NZCS is quick and easy, only costs around $4 a week (or less than $1 a week for students and recent graduates), and you can complete the first steps online right now.
